We select the hardest alloy capable of withstanding the impact forces specific to your gyratory crusher application. This decision is guided by three critical factors of the material being crushed: compressive strength, toughness, and friability.
For instance, crushing high-toughness materials requires work-hardening manganese steel. However, deploying the same liners for abrasive, friable ores will lead to rapid wear—since the low-impact conditions fail to trigger the steel’s work-hardening mechanism.
Site operating practices are another key consideration. In environments where tramp iron is a frequent occurrence, manganese steel remains the optimal choice to prevent component breakage. Harder steel or iron alternatives, by contrast, run a high risk of cracking or catastrophic failure when exposed to unforeseen impacts.

Thicker Concaves

Standard general-purpose concaves with uniform thickness often underperform, as wear patterns vary drastically across different applications. Our engineering team has verified that targeted thickness increases can double or even triple the service life of concave segments. To ensure secure installation, all our concaves are precision-machined with side grooves designed to accommodate spacer or keeper dowels.

We offer proprietary wear-resistant overlays for select concave segments manufactured from our H or L series steels.
